2. How do I know if I need to be evaluated at the Sleep Center?

Speaking about your symptoms with your Primary Care Physician or Internist should be helpful and they can then refer you to the Sleep Center. Some of the common symptoms people with sleep disorders describe are daytime sleepiness, fatigue, snoring, waking up gasping for air, breathing difficulties while asleep, shortness of breath at night, insomnia,or nighttime leg restlessness. Such symptoms may indicate the need to see a sleep specialist. You can also contact the sleep center to speak with a physician or nurse practitioner to determine a need for further evaluation. Top

4. What is a sleep study?

This is a study that is conducted in the Sleep Center lab, performed during the night while you are asleep. You would arrive at the center in the evening and spend the night in the lab. During this process, different body functions are measured during sleep, including brain waves, eye movements, breathing patterns, heart rate and rhythm, oxygen levels in the blood, and leg movements. These are recorded with electrodes attached to the body. The process is painless! Technicians will monitor your sleep all night and gather data. You will be awakened around 6:30 am, at which time you may go home. The data that is gathered is reviewed by the physician in detail to determine if you have a sleep disorder. Top

5. How are sleep disorders treated?

Depending on the diagnosis the management is different. If you are diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, Resltless Legs Syndorm, Narcolepsy, or Insomnia the details of management will be discussed with you and medications and/or CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) may be prescribed. If you have another condition then the management will be discussed with you in detail. Top

6. Will the costs be covered by my insurance?

Once we receive information regarding your insurance carrier, we will verify your coverage and will discuss this with you. You may have co-payments for office visits and/or the sleep study. Top

7. What Billing and Insurance information will I need?

Please be prepared to provide insurance information at the time you check into the clinic. Co-pays, as dictated by your insurance plan, and deposits for self-pays are due at the time service is provided. We accept major credit cards, checks, or cash for these services. If your health coverage requires a referral for coverage of medical service, obtain a referral from the appropriate provider in advance. Most referrals cannot be obtained after the visit has occurred and, in the absence of a referral, some plans will pay at a lower benefit level and you will be responsible for the difference.

Please contact our billing office at 614-854-0300 or 740-753-3764 if you have questions regarding the referral process. Top
